Foxwoods Casino - Robbie Larson

I thought this was a very interesting reading. Before I was 21 I had been around the "Indian Reservation" casinos, but I had never stopped to think that much about them. Then after turning 21 I was able to go out to Las Vegas and really get the whole gambling and nightlife experience. Foxwoods sounds like quit the place, while reading the first two pages where the described it, I pictured Cesears Palace, and how it too is a huge casino with a mall, clubs, and all sorts of places to eat. I was curious to see what Foxwoods looked like to i Goggled it, and it pretty much matched the picture in my head. The passage described things I had never really stopped to think about while being at a casino, like how there are no windows, somewhat low ceilings, and having no clocks. It made me feel like time dosent exist while you spend your money gambling and having a good time.
When you often think of Native Americans, you don't typically think of gambling and casinos, you often think of tepees, feathers, Indians, and the out doors. But the Pequot Tribe has turned that sort of stereotype into something completely different. They have created the worlds largest casino that brings in millions and millions of dollars for them. As Cooks put it " The Foxwoods Casino can be seen as a business venture that functions to support institutions and communities that have revitalized Pequot culture". The gaming culture is something that has seemed to continue to grow over the years and more and more money is being poured into it. Dating back, the Pequot Tribe would struggle to keep their land, and it continues to be part of their Tribal stories today. But looking back on the hard times they faced did they ever imagine they would be in the place they are today? The Pequot Tribe has shaped their image into something completely different in todays society. With everything revolving around money and fortune today they have placed themselves right in the middle of it all. They have embraced a form of entertainment that is widely known around the world as entertainment that never stops or sleeps and the lights and glamor are always on them.

Questions:
1. Have Native American casinos changed the view on gambling and gaming if so how?
2. By the Pequot Tribe running one of the biggest casinos in the world how has it changed the view people have on them?
